Due to shifting winds and air quality, we are postponing the completion of the NYLT course. All Scouts and Staff will be leaving Camp Melakwa by Bus and Staff Vehicles this evening. We expect NYLT to arrive here at the Council Service Center sometime shortly after 7:30 PM tonight.
We will hold the Scouts and Staff here at the Council Service Center for families to pick up. We will be sending another update once the course is packed up and everyone is on the way here to help confirm times.

Just got this image from NYLT. Air in camp is clear and Scouts are all doing well. We are monitoring the situation and are in contact with EMS. We have buses standing by should they be needed. We have starlink internet and a hamm radio set up at camp to ensure it can be contacted by the OTC and USFS in an emergency

To keep our Scout families fully informed we are providing an update on the Lookout Fire and any potential impact it might have on our NYLT Course at Camp Melakwa. As of Sunday evening, there was no smoke making its way into camp. As of this morning, our participants and staff are at Camp Melakwa and safe. The council leadership along with NYLT leadership is keeping a close watch on the fire activity. We are also in communication with the Forest Service and local emergency services.
We have plans in place to evacuate all the participants and staff, should the need arise. WE DO NOT WANT PARENTS DRIVING UP TO THE CAMP. We will transport all participants and staff to the Eugene area if necessary. If that does become necessary, we will notify all parents and Scout Leaders where they will be able to pick up their Scouts.
Thank you for your help in making sure we react to any issues that might arise in a calm and efficient manner!
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Scott or Rob at the Council Service Center.
