Council Update for 9-19-23

Council Update September 18, 2023

We want to keep you, the Oregon Trail Council community, informed as we move forward this fall.  Our Council board has already begun the important tasks to select our next Scout Executive.  This process typically takes two to three months.  We are also in the process of reviewing our staff needs and will be filling a number of positions as quickly as we can to better serve our charter partners, units, families and Scouts. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Fall is looking great, and we have a lot going on.  Scouting is never boring.  Many units are having great success with their joining night activities.  Pack 52 in Greenwood District said they had around 20 new families interested in joining their Pack.  We are hearing similar stories from many districts.  Remember we have the supplies to help you reach out to new families.  You can order flyers, welcome packets, and other materials, including fun activities for your event on our website.  Just visit the Membership / Marketing Resources page.

Fall Product sales start on September 22.  All the information and sign-ups are on our website at: https://otcbsa.org/fall-product-sale.  It’s not too late to get an order in for your unit. The Fall sale is a great way to help your Scouts learn to earn their way in Scouting and in life.  If you have any questions about the sale, please reach out to your District Coordinator or District Executive. Contact info is listed on the webpage for the sale.

The Annual Golf Tournament and Auction (Sep. 29) is gearing up for a great day in support of Scouting.  It’s not too late to sign-up for either event.  We will also be hosting the on-line silent auction (Sept. __ to __) with many great items you can bid on from home.
Sign -up for the auction at: https://otcbsa.org/auction2023

Unit Recharters will begin on Oct. 1 and many units have already scheduled their recharter meeting.  Your Commissioners and District Executives will be meeting with your Unit’s leadership team to help work through the recharter process.  We want to assist your units with this necessary annual task and ensure the accuracy of the information that goes into the national systems.  This will help your unit with many key functions like: adding new members, tracking advancement, and ensuring your leaders can access the correct data for your unit. You can help by making sure your unit has up to date contact info and that any needed training has been completed.

Cub Leaders and families, Haunted Trails (Oct. 27-29) is right around the corner.  Sign-up now to ensure your pack is a part of the fun.  We have a great group of volunteers heading up this event and lots of fun activities planned. Don’t let your Cubs miss the excitement of our Fall themed adventures.

Finally, thank you to all our Leaders and families. It’s each of you who make Scouting the best and safest program for our kids to become tomorrow’s leaders.  I can’t think of anything more important than helping our children to “Be Prepared!”
