The temperature is slowly changing, a bit of rain here and there. Our kids are back in school and our Scouting units are getting back to regular meetings full of fun and excitement. Fall really is one of my favorite seasons. There’s so much activity in our units. We have all the new families who are joining our Scouting community. New Leaders are taking training to “Be Prepared” to deliver the promise of Scouting. It truly is inspiring. I guess that’s why I love my job so much. Each of you, our amazing volunteers, inspires me.
I have had the honor of working for our Council for 20 years now. I’ve served in each of our districts. I’ve got to tell you; Scouting Leaders make it happen! Thank you so much for all you do for our families and our Scouts. I just can’t say that enough. Thank you.
We have many challenges as we move forward in Scouting. The really cool thing is that the challenges are the reason we joined this community. We like challenges. We are the people who “do a good turn daily” and who “leave it better than we found it”. We are the mountain climbers and service providers. We are there for our kids, our greater community, and each other. We start each day with the Scout Oath and Law and end each day with the question, “Have I done and have I dared, everything to be prepared?”
It’s because of this “Can Do” attitude that I have to laugh a bit when folks ask me, “How I’m holding up with all the changes?” If it was about me and what I can do, I might be concerned. Oregon Trail Council is a huge team. We have incredible folks who are willing to jump in and “make it work”. And now my last thank you in this update. I’m so grateful for all the calls and all the folks who are stepping in and stepping up to make sure Oregon Trail Council is ready for the future and all the Scouts who will benefit from the awesome adventures you help provide.
Like me, you are never alone in Scouting. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out. We are all here for each other. We are a team of teams working together for the benefit of all. That’s why I love Scouting.
Thank you,
~ Rob
