About

The Marion Mooney Scout Ranch, also known as Camp Mooney, is a 580-acre property located west of Winston, Oregon just off OR-42 on Suicide Creek and is the largest property owned and operated by the Oregon Trail Council. It is a popular venue for council and district Scouting events and weekend destination for Scouts BSA Troops and Cub Scout packs.

The camp features mixed timber, rolling hills and meadows, a creek, several short hiking trails, and wonderful flora and fauna and offers a variety of camping and outdoor adventure opportunities.

The property was originally owned by Marion Mooney and his wife Nancy who donated the property to the Oregon Trail Council in 1979. The Mooney’s had a big heart and cared deeply about providing opportunities for youth. Marion also donated the proceeds from land he owned in the Cottage Grove area to the Kiwanis Club for the purchase and construction of Sky Camp, another camp for youth. At the time of the formal presentation of the property to the council, Mr. Mooney stated that “man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.” Mr. Mooney’s donation has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of young people over the past 40+ years.
